Fall Color in Black & White

The saturated colors of fall are still occupying my sight and photos, so for my monochrome this week I went for more leaves. These are of cranberry viburnum, hanging over the Portage River. The fruits are the size and color of cranberries, but aren't edible - not even the squirrels will eat them. The plant is indigenous here, though, so it is odd that nothing eats it!

Somehow the leaves, which are now yellow and pink, seem more translucent than when they were green. I think using b&w brings this out.

The Monochrome Weekly has more of the world in monocrome; take a look at http://monochromeweeklytheme.blogspot.com/.

I think you're right, they are more translucent (I had to look in the dictionary;) when green.

Great contrasts.

I'm a sucker for the colours of Fall and would have to say that I really prefer your shot "After the Storm"; personal view.

B&W works really well! The leaves are so papery thin, and I like the overlapping shadows.

Photo those leaves while you can. It won't be long until they are GONE!

Oh how lovely...delicate. Very nice monochromatic shot.

Like your perspective there. Interesting that the berries are inedible which makes the tree decorative. Must be some other reason it exists - hold the soil in place?

Nice plug for your blog in the local paper. I agree with you that there are many interesting things going on in small towns, and , of course, the natural world that is all around us wherever we live.

That works out great in monochrome. Brings out the light so well.

A bit strange to see autumn without colour, but I agree with you regarding the translucency.

It seems like impossible task, but you did it. Success! The light is fairy! And the leaves are beautifully transparent.

The leaves look so different in monochrome. Nicely captured.

I love BWs and it seems strange to represent fall color in BW but this is a lovely shot and the translucence is wonderful!
