Spring thing - 2

Ice and snow recede; the city workers are busy filling the potholes that spring up in spring, sending the sweet smell of asphalt through the air. Hey guys, you missed a few over here in the library parking lot.

Ah the sweet smell of asphalt...We'd like a little of that here. It doesn't seem like Oakland ever fills any potholes. Driving around town is like taking Mr. Toad's wild ride.

Hah! Had not considered that the snow would wreak this sort of havoc as well, but it stands to reason.

What interested me was the use of the word "sweet". I find it an intruiging combination. I would use the word "pungent" but that does not preclude it being sweet as well. It is an attractive smell, akin to sniffing petrol without the negative connotations.

You have me thinking now ...

Those darn things can sure tear up a car...we have them here, too, but not because of snow and ice, just rain...in fact, our main road into our area needs several fixed right now. Fortunately, they can do that year round.

But I remember Minnesota! Yikes!

Sweet applies to the fact that your wheels won't go out of balance now!

Where I used to live, they were so big they could swallow a Volkswagen.
