Tragically, the cat passed away; but now it is safe for the birds to return to the feeder. This is a Downey Woodpecker, a tiny little member of the woodpecker family.
Backtracking my posts - didn't post the last few days 'cause I'm exhausted- a touch of something, combined with too many meetings!

I used to go to the Botanical gardens here in Burlington Ontario. While there, downy woodpeckers used to come and eat seed from my hands. It was so neat to have them swoop down quickly, grab the seed from my palm and take flight again.
Have to start doing that again.

Gorgeous bird! I had 3 pileated woodpeckers in my back yard in one day a couple of weeks ago. I tried to get pictures but I wasn't quick enough. They were huge!
It doesn't take long for the birds to know it's safe!
He's a beauty...but, sad about the cat!
