Wood

It snowed a little today. In this cold climate, wood brings a warm fire immediately to mind.

Changes

The horse and buggy SUV has changed into Jeeps and such. The Amish family that came to town yesterday for some shopping parked their buggy here, and also unhitched their horse and tied him to a tree. That's the real advantage of the modern vehicle, you don't have to remove the engine and tie it to a tree when you park. Also, when you come back to your vehicle, the engine isn't mad at you for leaving it waiting in the snow.

Thursday changes into Friday, December changes into January, 2009 changes into 2010, the first decade of the 21st century changes into the second. Other changes may be internal and more subtle.

Happy New Year, may there be good new beginnings for all.

Waiting

December's theme is "Waiting". Dogs are good at waiting. They wait for us to come home, wait for their walk, wait for someone to come paddle the boat.

Doorway

This fallen tree describes a door into the woodland - or maybe into a place of your imagination...

Taken at Hidden Marsh Sanctuary in Three Rivers, as a part of the November CityDailyPhoto theme "Doorway". Click here to view thumbnails of other participant's photographic interpretation of the 'Doorway' theme.

Theme day: contrast

The moon rises, brightly reflecting the setting sun; the Portage River in the sun, seen from the darkness inside an old barn above the river.

BIG theme day

Theme for September is "big" and in the American midwest that means one thing: the local water tower. Skyscrapers may be tall, but they don't have the cachet of the water tower; the tales of the midnight climbs by high schoolers to emblazon their school year with spray paint are a storied part of local bravado. Oh, and the towers provide water, too.

Three Rivers' tower looms over a local baseball field and dwarfs the nearby homes and trees. The pawprint is the high school football team's logo ("Wildcats").
