Skywatch Sunset

A lovely sunny day today for the Friday skywatch. Coming in to Three Rivers from the north, a sunset worthy of the beautiful day is seen across the snowy cornfields.

Barely seen

I do try to take my Friday photo on Friday, but it seems for weeks Friday has had the most uninteresting sky. Other days are sunny, other days have interesting clouds, sunrises, sunsets. Alas, Friday is stuck in a pearl bowl. But I caught a glimpse of the sun as is slipped through a crack between the white world and the white sky about 6pm. Snap!

Taken above the snow mountains by the hospital.

Skywatch - if you can see it

Today's sky was, well, not there. Taken about 5pm behind the Three Rivers High School football stadium.

I missed something fun yesterday - local grade school children made pottery bowls in their art classes and sold them at a "Soupless Supper" as a fundraiser for the needy. After the Soupless Supper bowls were all sold, soup was served.

Skywatch - Cloud Line

A unique feature of this part of the country are the bands of weather that run out like ribbons from west to east across the state. Driving north or south on 131 there may be sunlight - and then a ridge of clouds across the sky, sharply demarcating where the weather changes. This is an example, looking south from the 131/131 business loop intersection. Part of Three Rivers in sun, part with snow falling!

Skywatch

What I like best about the winter sunsets here are the colors through the tracery of bare branches at the tops of giant old deciduous trees.

I didn't get this posted in time so I won't link to skywatch this week. Backtracking my posts 'cause I'm exhausted- a touch of something, combined with too many meetings!

However, here's the link to the skywatches that did get posted on Friday: http://skyley.blogspot.com/.

Skywatch Sunset

By the clock and by the compass, this is sunset this evening. I have it on good authority that there is a sun up there somewhere, and I'm sure the sunset colors are lovely.

It is also the annual day for CityDailyPhoto best of the year pictures. Not that it's the best picture I took all year, but I like this photo from last September. I spent a while 'stalking' the picture, getting the flag reflection and the lantern. It's an impromptu 9-11 memorial constructed by local firefighters at the station (click photo to go to the original post).

Skywatch

Water, sun, sky. Only, the water is solid! Sunrise this morning, with a lemon yellow sun above a band of lavender clouds, and snow covered trees.

After a big snowstorm yesterday there is a promise of dazzling sunlight on the snow today. It's not even too cold (19F, -7C.) I was outside, that was my reaction. I can't believe I am thinking that it's not too cold!

Skywatch

Friday afternoon about 1:30 by the railroad tracks, a long line of clouds bringing snow. But for now, the sun is peeking out and there is some blue sky overhead. Its getting cold.

"Black" Friday Dawn

Just after dawn this morning, the sky shows a lot of blue, but the sun has not yet reached the buildings. The Christmas tree (center, in shadow) will not be lit until the official ceremony tomorrow, although it is already covered with decorations. Merchants will open soon; this is "Black Friday", from the expression "In the black", meaning profitable. The term comes from old hand written business ledgers, where profits were written in black and losses were written in red. In the US, retail sales are highest in the weeks before Christmas, and since the day after Thanksgiving is usually a day off work for most people, it has become an especially important sales day for retailers.

Yup, Sky Still Up There

And blue, too.

Camera (or, I hope, battery) woes are leaving me behind a few days...

Friday Sunset

A sunny morning, but the rest of the day was overcast, grey. As the sun slipped under the clouds at the end of the day it produced a lovely pastel sunset. (Looking west from the hospital in Three Rivers.)

Skywatching the Moon

I'm all wound up for tonight's opening of an art show in which I am participating, but on my way out this morning I was able to catch the moon in the sunrise sky over Three Rivers.

Skywatch

Last night, right ahead of the storm, big clouds rolled past a Three Rivers factory building. This morning, after a night of rain and wind, most of the beautiful fall color leaves have been washed to the ground.

Look up; there are all sorts of things going on there, and you can see more at Skywatch Friday.

Wait For It

Yesterday evening and today have been so grey and rainy that I considered going outside, pointing my camera at the sky, and letting raindrops fall on the lens. Instead, I waited. About 5:30 I was rewarded with a flash of setting sun under the stormclouds, sunlit trees contrasting with the dark sky.

Friday Sky

It was sunny for a while in the middle of the day here in Three Rivers, but for most of the day the sky was like this: grey, with big trees in fall color, and electrical lines.

A flock of geese heads out under stormy skies.

It's supposed to be sunny tomorrow, though! Keep looking up - and see what others around the world are seeing at Skywatch Friday.

Cloudy morning Skywatch

An ominous sky this morning about 7:30 am, from the Peeler Street Bridge. (Click for larger - there is some color in those clouds.)
