2 Much Snow 2 Paddle

This is one of my favorite local signs, for a canoe outfitter. But today if you look closely - the canoe is full of snow!

(The outfitter's name is good too - "Liquid Therapy.")

Backlit

The sun shining through a row of kayaks at Three Rivers' downtown outfitters. Canoe and kayak are a great way to see the fall color, always at its most intense over the water. The outfitters call themselves "Liquid Therapy", a great business name!

St. Joseph River

Looking south down the St. Joseph River from the park in Three Rivers. The sign on the tree is a watertrail marker. The rivers here are having historic spots along the river marked with sponsorship from local businesses, most of the markers are only visible to the canoes and kayaks and other recreational boaters on the river. This one says -

CONSERVATION PARK
Until about 1836 Native Americans camped on the opposite bank, near the Cassoway and Gibson Trading Post.

A Little Whitewater

Canoeists negotiate the small dam and whitewater section of the Rocky River in the park behind downtown. They made it through but the next group got hung up on the rocks! This is just past where a race channel was diverted from the Rocky. The race goes under an old power house that now houses a coffee bar. The power it would have provided is no longer used, but boats cannot pass under the building. The race and the river channel go under Michigan Ave and join the St. Joseph River in Scidmore Park.

Paddling the river

Canoes and kayaks spotted paddling in the Portage River. This is well inside the city limits - a little bit of wilderness at home.
