The Cat Basket

If you want to play poker, play with me -- I never win anything. Knowing this, I bought a raffle ticket for an ARF fundraiser, and, since I'm not that fond of cats, I thought I would be extra supportive by buying a ticket for the cat basket.

Ahhhgghghgh!!! I won! I won the cat basket! How can that be??

Bark bark, Santa

The animal rescue group, ARF, had fundraiser doggie visits to Santa at the Three Rivers Tractor Supply Company. A long line of enthusiastic owners and their dogs waited in a line, the dogs investigating any treats on display on low shelves. Here, a smiling Rottweiler has his photo taken with Santa.

ARF does many things for animals in the county, such as spay-neuter financial assistance, listing a "pet of the week" needing adoption in local papers, and emergency veterinary assistance. One wonderful service is providing food and bedding for the animals of people who are financially stressed, allowing the people to keep their pets. To read more about ARF go to their website, http://arfund.homestead.com/arf.html. If you want to donate, they take PayPal...

Dog Walk

Dogs and their people showed up yesterday for the annual ARF (Animal Rescue Fund, http://arfund.homestead.com) dog-walk in Broadway-Meyer Park in Three Rivers, in which walkers collected pledges to raise money for the organization. ARF helps cover the cost of pet spay-neuter for those who cannot afford the total cost of the operation, food for the pets of people in crisis, and many other services. The sun came out and it was a lovely day.

I wasn't able to attend, but Lynda Molter sent me a few pictures, including this one. "The top prize winner collected over $900.00 for ARF", she writes. Lynda is the ARF President, and besides being an angel of mercy for local animals, she also designs and makes beautiful jewels from glass.

Besides the walk, they had a maze for the dogs. I would like to have seen that! Next year.

Doggy Wash

Today was the Animal Rescue Fund fundraiser dog wash in front of the fire department in downtown Three Rivers. All was very jolly after the sun came out! ARF raises funds for animal care in the county, including spay/neuter funds and pet food for families in need. More on their website, http://arfund.homestead.com/ARF.html

Later, at the grocery store, Miss Michigan was found seated amongst the melons, ready to give autographs. No one was paying much attention. "Is it boring?" I asked. "Oh no!" she smiled, eyes wide. Her companion yawned.
